RE: I WILL ONLY SUPPORT A GRASSROOTS POLITICIAN TO SUCCEED ME.

By Ijudigal Na’Allah.

I feel compelled to address the misleading content found in Mr Tom Garba’s online publication (Tg News blog) dated 6th October 2024, despite my initial reservation.

The article contains a false portrayal of Chief Caleb Andrew Myebangara and other Governorship contenders in Adamawa state, wrongly attributed to a non-existent individual, Mr Mohammed Abdullahi Dantsoho.

This misrepresentation is based on Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri’s statement “I WILL ONLY SUPPORT A GRASSROOTS POLITICIAN TO SUCCEED ME”.

As a fervent advocate of grassroots politics and good governance, I am deeply dismayed by the blatant lack of journalistic integrity displayed by the author, who has positioned himself as an unwelcome interloper in Adamawa’s political landscape.

His apparent lack of knowledge and credibility disqualifies him from engaging in informed political discourse within the state.

The author’s motives seem driven by personal gain rather than upholding the fundamental principles of journalism, which include promoting national unity, human rights, democracy, justice, equity, peace, and international understanding.

This brand of irresponsible journalism does not align with the ethical expectations of a journalist in Nigeria.
I must assert that Chief Caleb Andrew Myebangara holds the esteemed position of Regional Bank Manager at Zenith Bank, Northeast, and is not merely a floor manager, as erroneously depicted in the article.

He stands as the first Indigenous Adamawa state man to attain this executive management level in Zenith Bank’s 34-year history. Zenith Bank, known for being the most capitalized and largest bank in Nigeria and Sub-Saharan Africa, commands a global reputation.

The achievement of a native son reaching such a significant position is commendable and warrants trust for higher responsibilities. Notable individuals such as Professor Babagana Zulum and Mr Kasim Shetima have similarly ascended to prominent positions from humble beginnings, illustrating that one’s background should not hinder their pursuit of leadership.

It is customary for politicians to declare their interests ahead of elections and establish support networks. Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, instrumental in grassroots development, may seek to pass the baton to a grassroots politician capable of sustaining his administration’s accomplishments.

This intent was made explicit during his recent address to the PDP fold at the Banquet Hall, Government House, Yola.

There is a consensus that the grassroots will wield considerable influence in determining his successor, ensuring that the next Governor maintains close ties with rural communities. Chief Caleb Andrew Myebangara has actively ventured into rural entrepreneurship and empowerment, demonstrating a nuanced understanding of governance beyond his banking background.

His leadership has garnered trust from a diverse array of stakeholders, civil servants, unions, organizations, traditional institutions, opinion leaders, and religious bodies owing to his integrity and broad engagement with various political platforms and communities.

His endeavours in implementing water projects, supporting vulnerable communities, and contributing to the #EndBadGovernance protest underscore his commitment to public service. Chief Caleb Andrew Myebangara’s interventions in vulnerable communities are laudable and reflect his aspiration to build on Governor Fintiri’s accomplishments.
