The Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, has urged for deeper bilateral cooperation between Nigeria and the Republic of Korea.
Akpabio made the call on Tuesday during a meeting with the Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Nigeria, Kim Pankyu, and officials of the Korean embassy at his office in the National Assembly in Abuja.
Describing the visit as a “major milestone,” the Senate President emphasized that it would further strengthen the bond between the two countries.
Akpabio expressed, ”
There are many areas of cooperation, such as the pressing issue of climate change, which greatly affects Nigeria today. Nigeria plays a pivotal role in the stability of the region.
With the population explosion in Nigeria affecting the entire black race, there is a need for us to have closer collaboration with partners like Korea.
This collaboration will enable us to learn from you in the areas of security, agriculture, poverty eradication, and, of course, in addressing climate change. In relation to the parliament, we would welcome a Nigerian-Korean Parliamentary cooperation.”
Earlier, Ambassador Kim Pankyu stated that his visit aimed to further strengthen the bilateral relations between Nigeria and his country.
He highlighted that economic exchange had been the cornerstone of the bilateral relations between the two countries since the establishment of diplomatic relations.
“I believe the potential for economic cooperation right now is greater than ever”
The Korean government is seeking to deepen its relationship with African countries, as evidenced by the Korean-African summit held last June.
At the same time, President Tinubu is implementing various policies to improve the business environment in Nigeria and attract foreign investment. I believe this factor will lead to more Korean companies venturing into Nigeria and an increase in bilateral trade,” the Korean Ambassador said.
