Reverend Father Maurice Kwairanga has appealed to Catholic and Christian lawyers for more pro bono services to those in need who cannot afford legal assistance, especially during the current economic crisis as they embark on the new legal year.
Father Maurice, who serves as the Coordinator of the Justice Development and Peace Commission as well as the Chaplain of the Catholic Lawyers Association in Yola Diocese, emphasized the importance of providing support to the underprivileged in need of legal aid, emphasizing the need for ethical considerations and adherence to the norms and values of the Catholic Church in their actions.
During a Thanksgiving Mass to mark the beginning of the 2024 legal year, Father Maurice underscored the significance of the Mass to Catholic legal professionals, highlighting the wisdom, rigorous educational training, and study required for their work.

“As Catholic lawyers try and maintain a good relationship with the people and government, make ethnic consideration and ensure your action reflect the norms and values of the Catholic Church”.
Father Maurice also pointed out the importance of hierarchical reverence in various disciplines, emphasizing how discipline and reverence within the church promote wisdom.

Referring to a reading from the day, Father Maurice highlighted the importance of wisdom and how it guided King Solomon in adjudicating cases appropriately.
He urged the congregation to pray for lawyers as they work to seek justice for the oppressed in these challenging times brought about by poor leadership, particularly those who champion justice and uphold the integrity of the law.
” From our reading today, we have seen the significance of wisdom and how it guided King Solomon to adjudicate cases appropriately. This same wisdom is what I am asking you today to pray for our lawyers as they work to seek justice for the oppressed”

Father Maurice commended Bishop Mamza for his support of Catholic lawyers nationwide and highlighted the Bishop’s role in fostering a harmonious relationship between the Catholic lawyers and the parishioners.
Justice Ambrose Mamadi, speaking on behalf of the Catholic lawyers and judges, expressed gratitude to Bishop Mamza and the entire church for allowing them to use the church for the Thanksgiving Mass.

The Mass was attended by the bench and the bar attributed to their cordial working relationship.
