During the recent Chrism Mass at St. Theresa’s Cathedral in Yola, Adamawa State, Catholic priests of the Yola Diocese united to renew their vows of service to God and humanity.
Bishop Mamza highlighted the importance of the Chrism Mass, noting that although it is traditionally celebrated on Holy Thursday morning, this year it was moved to Tuesday for pastoral reasons.
He emphasized that the Chrism Mass is a deeply spiritual occasion where all priests reaffirm their commitments and renew their vows before their bishop.
The Bishop also shed light on the significance of the blessed oils used during the Mass. “We bless three sacred oils: the oil of the sick, used to anoint those who are ill; the oil of catechumens, which prepares candidates for baptism; and the oil of chrism, employed during baptisms, ordinations, and the dedication of churches and altars,” he explained.

In reflecting on the state of the nation, Most Rev. Dr Stephen Dami Mamza expressed concern about the resurgence of violence and the activities of Boko Haram insurgents across Nigeria. He called on President Bola Tinubu and the nation’s security leaders to take immediate and effective steps to improve the security situation in the country.

Bishop Mamza urged leaders to approach the responsibility of safeguarding citizens’ lives and property with greater seriousness and urgency. He advocates for collaboration between government and security forces to strengthen their commitment to protecting the well-being of the community. Together, there is an opportunity to create a safer and more secure environment for all citizens.
