The Nigeria Education Emergency Working Groups in Adamawa State are concerned about the frequent use of school buildings to accommodate displaced persons during emergencies.
They recently visited the office of the Chief of Staff, Dr. Edgar Sunday Amos to advocate for the government to provide temporary shelters for emergency crises.
Their visit is in commemoration of the International Day to Protect Education from Attack, which focuses on the renewed commitment to implement and ensure sustainable financing of safe schools in Nigeria.
During the visit, Stephen Medugu, the focal person of Nigeria Education Emergency Working Groups in Adamawa State, highlighted areas where the government needs to strengthen education to protect it from various threats that have contributed to the declining standard of education.
He also commended the Adamawa Government for prioritizing education and supporting NGOs in complementing their efforts.
In response, the Chief of Staff, Dr. Edgar Sunday Amos, commended the NGOs for their efforts in the education sector and assured that the Adamawa State Government is mindful of their concerns.
He revealed that Governor Fintiri has mandated the Adamawa State Emergency Management Agency to come up with a blueprint on how to provide temporary shelters in case of unforeseen circumstances.
Dr. Edgar Sunday Amos also mentioned the achievements of the Fintiri-led government in education, which include the renovation of schools across the state, payment of WEAC and NECO fees, scholarships, and massive employment of teachers to increase manpower, among other initiatives.
Lastly, earlier, the International and national non-governmental organizations operating in the education sector under the umbrella of Nigeria Education Emergency Working Groups organized a gathering of partners and stakeholders at the Banquet Hall, Government House, to commemorate the International Day to Protect Education from Attack
