The Governor of Adamawa State, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, represented by Barrister Bello Hamman Diram, the Commissioner for Reconstruction, Rehabilitation, Reintegration, and Humanitarian Services, has officially inaugurated a newly constructed healthcare facility in Wurro Chekke, located within the Yola South Local Government Area.
This facility was established to address the growing medical needs of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) who have settled in Wurro Chekke, as well as the local population, many of whom are economically disadvantaged.
The project is part of the initiative for Strengthening Rehabilitation and Community-Based Reintegration Processes in Nigeria, which is funded by the Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Office (FCDO) in collaboration with the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA), and with additional support from the International Organization for Migration (IOM).

The Justice Development and Peace Commission (JDPC) implemented this project.
In his overview of the initiative, IOM representative Abdul Odumoh emphasized that the healthcare facility was conceived as part of broader efforts to stabilize IDP communities. By addressing critical healthcare challenges, this project aims to foster a sense of normalcy and security among displaced persons and their host communities.
“The essence of this initiative is to provide stability to the IDPs who have settled here. Healthcare is a fundamental necessity, and this project will significantly enhance the well-being of the community,” stated Odumoh.

Hamman Diram, representing the Governor as the Adamawa State Commissioner for RRR, expressed his heartfelt gratitude to all stakeholders for their dedication and commitment to making this project a reality. He highlighted that the facility was intentionally established to increase Wurro Chekke’s capacity to support the IDP population and enhance overall community resilience.
He urged residents to take full ownership of the facility to ensure its sustainability and optimal utilization.
Rev. Father Morris Kwairanga of JDPC Yola Diocese echoed Diram’s sentiments, acknowledging the collaborative efforts that enabled the successful execution of the project. He assured community members that the facility was built according to strict specifications and quality standards, ensuring its effectiveness in serving its intended purpose.
He called on the Wurro Chekke community to take responsibility for the maintenance of the facility, thereby ensuring the continued provision of essential medical care in the long term.

On behalf of the IDPs, Hamidu Njidda, the chairman of the IDP community in Wurro Chekke, expressed profound appreciation for the intervention. He noted that displaced persons in the area face daily hardships, and the establishment of the new healthcare facility would significantly alleviate their challenges.
“This facility could not have been established at a better time. Many of us have been dealing with serious healthcare issues, and this centre will provide substantial relief,” remarked Njidda.

With the completion and formal commissioning of the healthcare centre, residents of Wurro Chekke—encompassing both IDPs and members of the host community—now have improved access to medical services. This project represents a critical advancement in strengthening resilience and fostering a healthier, more stable environment for all involved.
