The Adamawa State Chapter of the Nigeria Medical Association, in partnership with the State Government, has stepped forward to address a pressing health emergency in Madagali Local Government.
This compassionate medical and surgical outreach aims to support over 2,500 vulnerable individuals who have been displaced by both insurgency and recent devastating flooding.
The residents of Madagali Local Government have faced unimaginable hardships, first from the Boko Haram insurgency and now from severe flooding, which has significantly diminished their access to healthcare and essential services.
Recognizing this dire situation, the Nigeria Medical Association, along with the support of Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, has launched this outreach to bring hope and healing to affected communities.

In celebration of Physician’s Week 2024, a dedicated team of 70 medical and surgical experts, accompanied by military escorts, made the challenging journey to Gulak, the administrative headquarters of Madagali. This area, marked by volatility, is in critical need of support.
During the outreach, the team provided vital medical services, including general consultations, treatments for common ailments, and the distribution of medications.

Dr. Yunusa Mohammed, the NMA State Chairman, expressed the profound importance of this free medical outreach. He shared, “We are here in Gulak to conduct a comprehensive medical and surgical outreach for those in need in this vulnerable community. This is our way of giving back and ensuring that everyone, especially the neglected, receives essential medical care.”
Dr Sajoh Njidda, Chairman of the Local Organizing Committee, reflected on the compounded suffering faced by the community due to conflict and flooding. “We all recognize the immense stress our people have endured, particularly in the Northeast region, with Madagali being among the hardest hit. The effects of insurgency have deeply impacted this community, which is why we chose this place for our outreach,” Dr Sajoh noted.

Simon Shashi, the Madagali Council Chairman, and Bello Ijadi, the District Head of Gulak, extended their heartfelt gratitude to the NMA and the Adamawa State Government for this timely and compassionate initiative.
They emphasized how crucial it is for the locals, who have been uprooted and impoverished by conflict and flooding, to receive much-needed healthcare.
The beneficiaries of this outreach shared their overwhelming joy and heartfelt appreciation for the medical team and the government’s efforts to meet their healthcare needs.

This initiative serves as a vital step toward rebuilding health infrastructure in areas ravaged by conflict in Adamawa State. By addressing the urgent medical needs of these vulnerable populations, the NMA and the state government are making a significant contribution to the recovery journey of the region and the well-being of its resilient residents.
