Adamawa: New Livelihood Incubation Center Launched to Empower 120 Youths.

In a bold initiative to tackle youth restiveness and create substantial job opportunities in Adamawa State, Plan International has formed a proactive partnership with the state government to train 120 youths in vital vocational skills at the newly inaugurated Livelihood Incubation Center in the Fufore Local Government Area.

Funded by the German Federal Ministry of Economic Development, this project is a significant step forward in empowering youths across the Lake Chad region to learn, earn, and thrive.

At the launch, Leticia Hijazo Conejos, the Lake Chad Programme Coordinator for Plan International, articulated the program’s mission with clarity and purpose. “We are dedicated to delivering access to high-quality technical skills and knowledge, enabling participants to make informed decisions and engage in productive ventures,” Conejos asserted.
She continued, “We are collaborating closely with the Ministry of Education to provide specialized trainers who will impart essential literacy and numeracy skills. Additionally, the Ministry of Agriculture will supply expert trainers, ensuring that participants gain the critical knowledge necessary for success.”

“At the Fufore Center, we have renovated a block of three classrooms—two designated for intensive training and one serving as a daycare for participants with children. We have two trained caregivers supporting the daycare operations during classes. Furthermore, we constructed gender-sensitive latrines, secured the classroom area with fencing, and employed security personnel to ensure the safety of both our resources and participants,” she noted emphatically.

“We have engaged community members, traditional leaders, and stakeholders at both the local and state levels to establish management committees for the Livelihood Incubation Center, fostering a strong sense of ownership and collaboration,” she emphasized.

This training program has already benefitted around 280 youths in business development and food production, and it is set to make a significant contribution to peace-building efforts by improving individual livelihoods in the region.

Lami Umaru Fintiri, the wife of the Adamawa State Governor, proudly launched the centre, underscoring that this initiative is designed to equip youths with the skills necessary for self-sufficiency and entrepreneurship.

Mrs Fintiri, represented by Fadimatu Babas, the wife of the Fufore Local Government chairman, stated with confidence that the centre features state-of-the-art facilities tailored for both young individuals and nursing mothers eager to pursue skilled trades.

“Our facility is outfitted with cutting-edge equipment and a creche, ensuring that nursing mothers can fully participate in the training,” she affirmed.
The training program is also strategically designed to empower women and adolescent girls by providing resources for loan and savings groups, thereby enhancing their livelihoods and building the capacities of vulnerable groups—especially women and young girls.

Mrs Peace Audu Samson, the Vice Chairman of Fufore Local Government, commended the project and confirmed that the local council would utilize the centre to provide further training for women and youths.

She praised Governor Ahmadu Fintiri’s administration for its steadfast commitment to grassroots development and the empowerment of women and youths.

One of the beneficiaries, Mrs Deborah Emmanuel, expressed her heartfelt gratitude, revealing that she has successfully established her animal breeding business with six goats and four sheep, thanks to the invaluable skills she acquired through the training.

The project is implemented by HARAF, an Adamawa: New Livelihood Incubation Center Launched to Empower 120 Youths.
