
Adamawa State’s monthly Environmental Sanitation Committee has visited Fufore Local Government to monitor the level of compliance in the area for the October month exercise.
The delegation led by the commissioner, Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources Alhaji Sadiq Wali, on behalf of the Chairperson of the exercise, Deputy Governor Kaletapwa Farauta, consisted of three other Commissioners, directors and some staff of the host ministry who went around for an on the spot assessment.
Speaking during the exercise, Commissioner for Justice and Attorney General Barrister Afraimu Jingi explained that the sanitation exercise is key to a healthy and peaceful environment.
He encouraged residents to continue to ensure cleanliness and avoid breaching government orders in that regard.
Barrister Jingi pointed out that the government will continue, unabated, with the exercise until the state attains a healthy environmental status.
Also, in an interview, the Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Alhaji Sadiq Wali expressed satisfaction with the level of compliance in the area visited.
He identified some points where dumping sites have been provided including, among others, Fufore Road, along Mbamba in Yola South and FUTY Road.
On her part, the Vice Chairman of Fufore Local Government, Mrs Peace Audu Samson, who represented the council, Chairman, expressed delight over the visit of the team.
She explained that upon assumption of office, they initiated a project aimed at cleaning the drainages in the area by engaging three different groups for the purpose, which hitherto caused a flood that affected people’s shops and residential.
Mrs. Samson, however, maintained that following the proactive step, this year, the residents enjoyed a flood-free season with consequent health improvement.
Also speaking, the District Head of Fufore, whose palace the delegation visited, Alhaji Aliyu Hamman Tukur, said the visit was timely as it gingered them to vigorously engage in the exercise with tenacity henceforth.
While commending the Divisional Police Officer, DPO, Fufore Local Government for ensuring and enforcing law and order in the area, the district head revealed that they support and comply with the monthly sanitation exercise fully.
It was observed that there was an appreciable level of compliance by residents in Future as people were seen sweeping and clearing garbage within the area.
